HOW TO LOOK PUT TOGETHER IN BLACK & WHITE

I love to experiment with my style but like many people, I often end up having a go-to uniform for those days that I just don't have the patience to mix it up. Over time I have built a few essential looks for those days to create the perfect smart and put together look for almost any occasion. That go-to-uniform tends to be a smart-ish jumper, black trousers of some description, black heeled ankle boots and a crossbody bag.  Sometimes I do go for a silky style or even cotton shirt (like this one) but when it starts to get a bit colder I opt for an easy, but unique jumper to keep things interesting.

Here I went for a Michael Kors white jumper with side ties and some Zara pleather trousers with lace detailing at the hem that I thought added a bit of interest whilst still remaining relatively simple. By keeping the whole look monochrome it really adds to the simplicity and really makes you look more professional, refined and put together (even when you are not!). The trick is really keeping each individual item simple, with only small hints of individuality, such as the side ties on the jumper, or the bird embroidery on the bag which keeps everything looking sleek and elegant without really trying too hard. All pieces are simple enough on their own but what makes them look good is that the basics such as the black bag and white jumper are both investments. These then look expensive, even when they are paired with less expensive pieces such as the Zara faux-leather trousers.

THE 4 THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN CREATING A PUT TOGETHER UNIFORM:

  • Black & White is always chic
  • Simplicity is the way to go
  • The interest is in the details
  • Invest in good quality basics
