Is the Estrid Razor Worth the Hype?

[4 MINUTE READ]

If you are interested in hair removal, I can almost guarantee you will have heard of the Estrid Razor.

Last year, the Estrid Razor has made quite the mark, what with its robust marketing campaign that has seen the advert pop up pretty much everywhere.

Described as a 'vegan razor' that aims to empower women to do whatever they wish with their body hair, the Estrid Razor has certainly created a buzz in the beauty arena.

Estrid kindly gifted our Editor Gabriela the Estrid Razor and over the past few months, she has been trying it out.

Below, she shares some of her thoughts and whether the Estrid Razor is indeed worth all the hype.

Gabriela has dry, sensitive-prone skin.

Estrid The Starter Kit

How does it all work?

If you are new to Estrid, when you go on the website you can purchase a Starter Kit. The Estrid Starter Kit is a subscription service starting at £7.95 (with free shipping!) that includes one steel razor handle, one wall/shower holder, and two five-blade razor cartridges.

You start by picking your favourite colour out of Blush, Cloud, Space, Peach and Lemonade, which will be the colour of the steel handle razor they will send you.

Next, you select how often you would like to receive the cartridges; once a month, every second month or every third month.

In the final step, you can select another product such as the Estrid Shave Cream or Estrid Razor Case, for an additional price to your subscription.

If you would like to proceed without additional products, you simply pay £7.95 at checkout, followed by £9.95 for x4 refill cartridges every 30/60/90 days depending on the subscription frequency you select. Pretty affordable, right?

"A vegan razor? Is that even a thing?"

Seriously though, it sounds strange right? I honestly never thought a razor could be vegan before I saw the advert for the Estrid razor. When I saw it I thought is this a clever marketing ploy? Or is the Estrid razor really vegan?

It turns out, the Estrid razor is, actually, vegan. Estrid does not use animal products in their razor blade soothing strip, whereas most conventional razors do!

Estrid uses all-natural ingredients such as aloe vera, shea butter and cocoa butter because it believes these products are better for our skin, the planet and our bodies. How cool is that?

My Experience

Prior to trying the Estrid razor, I had seen their ad in just about every fashion magazine, and I really wanted to try it.

Truth be told, I have a love/hate relationship with shaving. I prefer other hair removal techniques but due to my sensitivities, I have found in the past that waxing and epilating has caused my skin to break out into rashes and, even a stand-alone bout of eczema once.

Due to this, in recent years, I have scaled back my efforts to remain hair-free for longer and instead, favoured shaving for the ease it gives me. With shaving, I have also not yet suffered any adverse reactions on my extremely sensitive skin.

Once I received my Estrid Starter Pack, I quickly assembled the razor cartridge onto the steel handle and removed the sticky tab from the shower holder. It easily stuck to the wall and I was able to access the Estrid Razor really easily when I was in the shower. A massive bonus!

After ensuring my body was wet, I grabbed the Estrid razor and began to drag the razor up my legs in the direction of the hair grain. It glided very easily over my skin and I did not feel a single knick or cut during the shave, which might not sound like a lot to some, but I at least injure myself once during a shave! Using the Estrid razor allowed me to shave very quickly and my legs felt super smooth after!

Final Thoughts

I am so impressed with the Estrid razor! It is definitely my favourite razor I have ever tried and I have found it works well to shave your legs, armpits and even the bikini area.

Over the past few months of use, I am also pleased to note that I have experienced zero razor bumps and minimal ingrown hairs; something I often suffer with upon hair regrowth. I think this could be down to the clean, vegan ingredients Estrid use in the soothing strip, which my skin seems to really agree with.

Now that I know the Estrid razor exists, it is hard to imagine shaving with any other!
