Less Is More: Lixir Skin Review

[4 MINUTE READ]

For us, the start of Spring signals the time to spring clean our wardrobes and beauty cupboards. Clutter, be gone!

If you are intending to spring clean your skincare products and pare back your skincare routine this season, then you may be interested in this week's review of the Lixir Skin range.

Below our Editor, Gabriela shares her thoughts after trying out the Lixir Skin range over a couple of months. Gabriela has dry, sensitive-prone skin.

Lixir Skin is a skincare brand that believes in universal skin needs and the power of one good formula to do it all.

With that in mind, Lixir has produced a range of skincare products that are multi-tasking to make a difference to your skin and work for everyone, no matter your age, sex or skin type.

Universal Emulsion

This product is Lixir Skin's staple base product that can be used as a day cream, night cream, serum or base. Universal Emulsion has been formulated with tonnes of water, the ultimate anti-ageing active, to give your skin the hydration it needs, whether you are using it on your face, décolleté, hands or body. It also contains SPF 10 which is extremely unusual for an emulsion.

My experience using Universal Emulsion was really brilliant! It felt extremely light and gentle on my skin, which is really important to me as my skin is prone to sensitivity. As a result of using the product, I noticed that my skin appeared clearer and brighter. I would absolutely recommend Universal Emulsion as it does the job of multiple products in one, meaning you can throw out those moisturisers that do not really work and are cluttering up your skincare cupboard.

Good Skin Shaker & Good Skin Day Shaker

These are two really cool products that promise to simultaneously depuff and fill in the skin. The Good Skin Shaker is ideal for ageing skins that may look tired due to uneven texture and puffiness. It is a common problem that ageing skins face, but it is unusual to find a product that tackles both problems at once. The Good Skin Day Shaker is the same product, but with an added tint that is perfect if you want a natural glow for the day ahead, rather than a full face of makeup.

All you have to do is give the bottle a good shake and apply two pumps of the product to your skin. It's as easy as that! While I did like this product, I did not feel as though my skin was the target audience for it. My main skin concerns are fine lines and dark spots. I did feel it gave my skin an extra lift though, which was obviously very welcome!

Night Switch PHA/AHA 10%

Lixir Skin has various Night Switch products to target various skin concerns. This one contains pure active molecules to exfoliate the skin and promote healthy renewed skin through healthy cell turnover. It is important to note that the Night Switch products are intended to be mixed with Universal Emulsion.

I began the course of Night Switch products with this one as recommended by Lixir Skin. I simply mixed two pumps of Night Switch PHA/AHA 10% with Universal Emulsion and gently massaged the product into my face and neck. Over time, I noticed my skin looked visibly brighter and the dark spots on my skin (left from spots and acne) seemed less noticeable. This product was one of my favourites in the range!

Night Switch Retinol 1%

I personally love retinol and have seen great results in the past, so I was really excited to try this product. Lixir Skin recommends letting your skin rest in between using another Night Switch and trying the Night Switch Retinol 1%, so that is what I did.

Then, I mixed two pumps of the product with Universal Emulsion before massaging into my face and neck. I began to notice results from using this product after just a few short days; my skin looked clearer and fine lines seemed less deep than previously. I was really impressed with this one and will definitely continue to use it!

Night Switch BHA/AHA 10%

This Night Switch is intended to be used by those with problem skin, meaning those with acne, spots and blackheads. The mix of three acids works by clarifying the skin in order to dislodge dead and pigmented skin cells that lead to breakouts.

I used the product in the same way as the other Night Switch products on days where my skin was more congested and I had visible spots I wanted to clear. Night Switch BHA/AHA 10% was very effective in clearing small spots and clogged pores fairly quickly, but it took a little longer to work on larger pimples. Even so, I felt this product was really potent and did not dry my skin out in the process, which is really important to me. I would definitely recommend this product for problem skin!

Night Switch Essential Lipids

Night Switch Essential Lipids is designed to help dry or dehydrated skin types hydrate their skin and retain that moisture by using an ultra-rich lipid blend of ceramides, essential fatty acids, phospholipids, phytosterols and glycerides.

For me, this product worked wonders where my skin felt tight, dry and even slightly flaky around my nose. Just a couple of nights of using this product leaves my skin feeling more soft and supple. Night Switch Essential Lipids is my hero product in the range!

Vitamin C Paste

This product was the final product I tried in the range; a quick morning mask that aims to protect and correct in one.

If you have ten minutes to spend on your skin in the morning, that is all you need! Simply warm a pea-sized amount of the Vitamin C Paste in the palm of your hand and apply to your face and neck (or wherever else you fancy). Leave it on for a few minutes and then rinse it off with a clean towel mitt. After that, you can use your Universal Emulsion or Good Skin Shaker to complete your routine.

I really enjoyed using this product because it is quick and easy to use, but it still feels like a treat. My complexion looked smoother and brighter almost instantly after using the Vitamin C Paste. It is a quick fix for your skin that is guaranteed to make you feel good in the morning. I highly recommend you give it a go!

Final Thoughts

Lixir Skin advocates a less is more approach to their skincare and while I loved trying out these products, I must admit I have a long way to go in terms of streamlining my products. I have built up a rather large collection, you see... That being said, I have curated my perfect, personalised concoction of Lixir Skin products that I truly love - not just for their easiness, but for their fabulous results.

My favourite products from the Lixir Skin range are the Vitamin C Paste to give myself a pep in my step in the morning, Universal Emulsion for its multi-tasking benefits, Night Switch Essential Lipids and Night PHA/AHA 10%. Now that I have found these products, I can definitely start eliminating others that are not as effective from my beauty cupboard. *Entering Operation Spring Clean*
