You may recognise the brand Sol de Janeiro from their best-selling Brazilian Bum Bum Cream. The cream is renowned for its luxurious scent, tightening and hydrating properties.
Over the past few weeks, our Editor Gabriela had the pleasure of trying out a couple of Sol de Janeiro's products: the Brazilian Bum Bum Cream, the Coco Cabana Cream and the Rio Sunset Glow Oil.
Below, she shares some of her thoughts on the products and why she thinks Sol de Janeiro is the body care brand for summer. Gabriela has dry, sensitive-prone skin.
Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream
Starting with the product that brought the brand its fame, the Brazilian Bum Bum Cream. Sol de Janeiro aims to bring Brazilian beauty secrets to the masses with all its products, but there is a reason why people rave about the Brazilian Bum Bum Cream.
Look & Feel
Not only is the small yellow tub a handy size for travel or simply storing in your beauty cupboard, but it also looks like a little slice of the Rio sun. The first thing I noticed when trying the product was the gorgeous scent; a mixture of nutty pistachio and salted caramel. It smells truly delicious!
Use & Results
Despite what the name suggests, it is important to highlight that the cream can be used on your whole body (not just the booty). The cream feels really luxurious and thick when you scoop it up and massage it into your skin. Plus, a little goes a long way!
I couldn't believe that after just a few days of using the product my skin looked so much more radiant - the kind of radiance that seems to come from true hydration - and noticeably tighter.
Sol de Janeiro Coco Cabana Cream
This cream, like the Brazilian Bum Bum Cream, is also an all-body cream and another truly indulgent experience.
Look & Feel
The product comes in a similar tub to the Brazilian Bum Bum Cream, albeit in an aqua blue shade that brings to mind the gorgeous colours of exotic skies... A summer holiday in a tub. The smell is certainly different to the Brazilian Bum Bum Cream, and dare I say it, better! The fragrant mixture of coconut, sandalwood, toasted praline and vanilla is simply divine!
Use & Results
The application and consistency of the Coco Cabana Cream feels pretty similar to the Brazilian Bum Bum Cream, and it also feels wonderful when massaged into the skin. In terms of the results, again, my skin felt immediately smoother, tighter and more hydrated.
Honestly, there was not a huge difference in terms of the results between this cream and the previous. They both work absolute wonders for my skin's hydration levels and are a definite step-up from my usual body cream!
Rio Sunset Glow Oil
This product is a face and body oil designed to give your skin the illumination and glow that comes with a week away in the sun. A girl can dream...
Look & Feel
The Rio Sunset Glow Oil comes in a curved edge bronzed bottle that is convenient to throw in a handbag or store on your beauty shelf. It also looks super sleek! When you open the lid you will smell a coconutty, salted caramel aroma that I found to be an instant mood-booster.
Use & Results
When using the Glow Oil on your body, simply pump the oil into your hand and gently massage into your body. You can build up the glow as you like, but if you just want a shimmer 3-4 pumps go a long way.
For your face, you can mix the Glow Oil in with your foundation to give your complexion a boost, or simply use it as a shimmery highlight on top of your usual makeup. Just one pump will do the trick here!
This product is a real game-changer for me as, although I love highlighter, I find that often they can look too obvious or stand out more than I would like. The Rio Sunset Glow Oil gives me that effortless and subtle sunkissed look, with a slight shimmer that looks perfect for a done-up evening look or a natural day face. As we move into the warmer months (and hopefully out of lockdown), I have a feeling the Glow Oil will become a staple of my morning routine.
Final Thoughts
Anyone who knows me will tell you that I am a summer girl through-and-through. I love this brand and not only for its bright and summery aesthetic but for the great results! The products feel really luxurious and genuinely improved the appearance of my skin.
My favourite product was probably the Rio Sunset Glow Oil, which proves that Sol de Janeiro is so much more than their signature Brazilian Bum Bum Cream. I will definitely be having another look at their website to see what other goodies I can integrate into my morning routine to get me feeling summer-ready when the time comes!
